“One should only pray in a house in which there are windows”

“A person should pray only in a house with windows,” says the Talmud, “as it is written, ‘and his windows opened from his loft towards Yerushalayim’” (Berachot 34b). Rashi believes that while letting in light with which we can see, windows also reveal the sky, which allows those looking through it to remember Hashem in shamayim. For our community’s spiritual center, windows have been designed to both enhance the beauty of the building while keeping our vision on the Source of our lives.
