The sages call upon us to create “fences” to separate the sacred from the profane, the permitted and the forbidden. These boundaries also serve as reminders as to where our focus should be placed – on inward connection versus outward distraction. On our shul, the mechitza is designed to both enhance the beauty of the beit knesset, while respectfully offering everyone a space where they can daven in comfort and with intention.
